Cooktown
The tiny aircraft we had to fly with from Cairns
Anyways, here I am, at the end of the world! And so far I am loving it:)
Cooktown is a small town located at the mouth of the Endeavour River, on Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland where James Cook beached his ship, the Endeavour, for repairs in 1770. At the 2006 census, Cooktown had a population of 1,336.[1] Both the town and Mount Cook (431 metres or 1,415 feet) which rises up behind the town were named after James Cook.[2]
It is the northernmost town on the east coast of Australia and was founded on 25 October 1873 as a supply port for the goldfields along the Palmer River.[3][4] It was called 'Cook's Town' until 1 June 1874.
Jason's working as a chef, me as a waitress, in the cafe bar and doing housekeeping. This is probably the best place you can go to and save money! We stay at the resort for free (almost), eat many of our meals for free and will be working as much as possible. Not only does working 50-75 hours a week give us little time to spend money, but even if we did have the time there is really nothing here to spend it on haha.
The Sovereign resort is the only resort in town. It's beautiful and really big and has a nice pool I can sneek into beetween my shifts:)

As said before, Cooktown is a really beautiful place, the scenary is amazing! And you feel like you have the place all to yourself!
For me as a foreigner it's a really special feeling meeting Kangoroos when I do my morning runs, and weird knowing that I shouldn't swim because there's heaps of crocodiles here!
When I moved all our stuff in to our little staff apartment earlier today I got advised to keep the backdoor shut, beacuse of the snakes. And yesterday when i was having a shower there was a spider the size of my fist right next to me. F.... me I hate bugs, cockroaches, mosquitoes and all of the above. But I'm slowly getting used to it!. For example I dont call for Jaosn anymore if I encounter one, I deal with it myself lol.
This place is obvioussly more exotic for a norwegian like myself, than an australian. I think people from the cold north appreciate the heat and the pools way more than the locals! For me this is all new and exiting! Whilst for Jason it's a workplace he promised himself not to come back to, a place he knows way too well.
I also have experience from living in small towns. Cooktown is even smaller than Lopez (only by a couple hundred), the town I spent a year in as an exchange student in 2007. And I know all about how it can be a bitch with all the gossiping ect. Not that thats gonna be an issue this time around, becuase all we'll do is stick our heads down and work!
Having said that, I could not live here. It's okay for a while but I reckon it would get pretty boring in the long run! Hence why we'll be moving to Copenhagen when we've saved enough money.
Australia is very nice, but it's so far away from everywhere!
Well thats a little update about where I'll be spending the next 3 months!

This is our 4th day here and we just moved in to our little apartment here at the resort we will be working at! well, actually it's nothing new to Jason, he has worked here 4 seasons previous and is the reason we're up here in the first place! From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
